Lexington County Master Gardener Volunteers

The Lexington County Master Gardener Volunteers is a non-profit educational service organization of trained volunteers who provide scientific, research-based horticultural information to the community.

The mission of the Clemson Extension Master Gardener program is to select, train, and utilize knowledgeable volunteers to facilitate the educational work of the local Consumer Horticulture Agent, by delivering research-based information to citizens of the state.

Becoming a Master Gardener

The Master Gardener Program is a completely volunteer-based development program offered by Clemson University Extension Service and is designed to increase the availability of horticultural information and improve the quality of life through horticultural projects in local and state communities.

Interested individuals who would like to begin the journey of study to become a Master Gardener can apply using the link below. When a class is available in your area, you will be notified.

Once you are accepted into the program you will attend Master Gardener Volunteer Training Class (MGVTC) for at least forty instructional hours, provide regular attendance and pass the final exam. Following the educational class program the Intern will provide forty hours of Educational volunteer service. After the Intern requirements are completed you will be recognized as a Master Gardener. Each Master Gardener contributes a required twenty hours of educational service and ten hours of continuing education per year to keep their Master Gardener status.
